Sick Notes

How To Count Sick Days

Sick days are counted from the first day you are unwell and include any day after that, regardless of whether you would normally work or not. This means that if you worked Monday to Friday normally, but became unwell on Wednesday, your 7th sick day would be the following Tuesday

When Is a Sick Note Required

Non-urgent advice: Unwell for Fewer Than 7 Days

If you have been unwell for fewer than 7 consecutive days, you do not need a note from your GP. You can self-certify by completing a form from your employer when you return to work

If you are unwell for more than 7 days, your employer may request a note from your GP. We can provide a note if you have an illness that prevents you from going to work, or means you need changes to your work to allow you to continue. You cannot have a “sick note” for anything except ill-health
